Awakened
09/09/00
Crack! A blast of thunder
I don't move a muscle
I watch the dark clouds swirling
So suddenly, I'm awestruck
I embrace the howling wind
The storm moves on, and I follow
The turbulent winds are changing
Now I soar among the winds
An overwhelming sound
Then there is a silence
And I lay on the ground
Can't even blink an eye
I lie in shock, but breathing
Staring at the sky
Amidst the flashes of light
And marvel at the beauty
Of a sky alive at night
Overcome with fascination
I'm instantly addicted
To this newfound inspiration
And sing aloud with its song
I close my eyes and listen
And let it carry me along
Hoping it will fly low
I'm captivated by the energy
And don't want to let it go
And in turn, so am I
The power has run through me
And I spread my wings to fly
That have swiftly opened my eyes
I have finally awakened
And torn off my old disguise
This poem, though unimpressive stylistically, has special significance to me because it is metaphorically speaking about the impact the discovery of Blue Man Group had on my life. I was kinda "here and there" at the time, with little direction, and BMG gave me something to focus on, as well as a supportive and fun community to hang out with. The atmosphere inspired me to create, and to attempt to be myself, whoever that might turn out to be. It was a sort of turning point, I suppose you could say.
