"To the Spirits"

[PAINTING] This large piece (ummm...it's big?) is the third part of a tryptych I did for my final project. (The other two pieces aren't on my site, because, well, they suck.) All three pieces were supposed to tie together and have similar elements, but were also meant to be able to stand on their own. We could pick one of three themes: college, you, or a fairy tale. I went with a fairy tale and chose "The Little Mermaid," but not the Disney version. The first piece depicts the mermaid lying on the ocean floor, rather depressed and waiting for something to come along. The second, she surfaces near the human boat, and is horribly injured (ok, ok, so I got frustrated with painting and put some blood on her, hahaha)... in this one, she's died, but the spirits are inviting her to join them as a whisper on the wind... this is the moment of epiphany where she is transformed into her new self.
