Ah, Matthew... I feel like I'm going to babble for a while about him, but that's OK, right?
First of all, in February 2001, I saw him perform at the Luxor show in Las Vegas. Not only was he an amazing performer, but he allowed me a hug--my first from a Blue Man. ;) Very sweet. More than two years later, at the Complex tour in June 2003, I saw him perform again... but through a confusion, I didn't realize he was the same Matthew, and I later kicked myself (hehe). So the next time I went to the tour show, I was sure to talk to him. I recounted the entire story about my confusion with his identity, and he seemed to be pretty interested... for more details, read the paragraph about Matthew in my show journal.
To get to the true point here... Talking with Matthew was somehow enlightening and incredibly lovely. He has a certain wonder about him, like he is a gorgeous child, infused with intellect and passion. His tour journal entries on blueman.com are intensely beautiful in a cryptic, artistic kind of way. You don't always really know exactly what he's talking about (hee hee)... but that's part of the beauty of it, because it is a sort of glimpse into his soul, his thoughts and emotions about the world around him. (The quotes on this artwork were taken from those journal entries; hopefully most of them can be made out if one tries... but I didn't want them to be clearly legible.) In the literary sense, he is different from Brett (who I've also done a piece for in this section) because his style seems to be more raw, more representative of not-so-distinct auras that may be present in one's mind. Matthew simply strikes me as being ethereal... and a wonderful artist... not to mention he's an absolute darling. =)
