"Smoke"
Ryan Adams, singer/songwriter, some kind of genius
Created 07/08/03.
Oh, where do I start... on the blueman.com message board, Brett Gillen indirectly introduced me to Ryan Adams [Brett, at the time, was an anonymous Vegas Blue Man posting as "cowboymouth"--he made a little contest out of telling us his god-given name]. Soon afterwards, I got Ryan's sophomore CD, Gold, for Christmas. I loved it. But I didn't deeply appreciate this guy as much as I do now until I got my hands on Heartbreaker, his first solo CD. I don't even know if I can explain it. His music moves my soul... Hm, Brett was much more eloquent about explaining this so I'll quote him! Hehe... on Heartbreaker: "You know, I originally thought that one of you may have already had this album and been familliar with it's heart-wrenching beauty and I'd just tell you my dumb name and we could get on to talking about how great the album is and the tortured genius who wrought it. Alas." and "but the important thing is going out immediately and purchasing this gem of song-writing mastery and incorporating it directly into your daily routine. What an amazing piece of work it is, and I implore all of you to check it out just as soon as possible, before the rest of the nation catches on to the fact that the Second Coming of Bob is perhaps upon us, but this time with a really sweet voice!" mmmm... sweet voice indeed. I never really liked southern accents until I heard Ryan Adams. hehe.
