Peter Moore lends his voice on Blue Man Group's "The Complex" CD, and was a primary vocalist and musician (he plays keyboards and Chapman Stick) on their 2003 Complex Tour. He fit in perfectly with BMG's ideas about human society and the stifling situations we've found ourselves in... His tour journals on blueman.com showed an acute awareness, a satirical yet impressive view of the world around us... You don't just laugh your face off while reading them, you're prodded to think about our culture and mannerisms at the very root.
My admiration for Peter didn't really take hold until I saw him perform live (twice) on the Complex Tour. He puts an incredible amount of passion into his singing, and you can see the emotion pouring through his eyes and hands. I was blown away by his performance of "The Current" in July 2003, and quite honestly thought he could top Gavin Rossdale (who sings the track on the CD) any day. The thing about Peter is that beyond his poignant, striking vocals is an incredible mind and an obvious emotional power just waiting to burst out. There's something in his manner that makes any song that much more awe-inspiring... When he sings, he seems to allow his soul to escape just a bit, just enough to reach out to anyone who's paying close enough attention.
[post-artwork-creation note: Peter's got to be one of the sweetest people I've ever met. I was lucky enough to meet up with him after all 3 of the Complex Tour shows I went to, and he was so friendly and talkative! All the while, he's ridiculously humble, almost to a fault (give yourself some damn credit, man!). I brought a hard copy of this art to him at the third show... I meant to also give him a "well-deserved hug" but I didn't! Damn! *bangs head on keyboard*]
[post-artwork-creation note #2: Since making this art and writing about Peter, I've had a chance to get to know the music of his band, Count Zero. It's really interesting stuff, and I encourage you to check it out!]
